Susan Dunkerley was born in Galveston, Texas and grew up in Columbia, Missouri. She has been a member of the Baylor Art Department faculty since 1997.
Her photographs have been published and exhibited nationally and in Europe. She is known for her black and white photographs documenting temporary collages and sets she constructs in her studio windows. Dunkerley’s photographs have been recognized with a number of awards, including the 2001 Fellowship from Silver Eye Center for Photography, Pittsburgh, PA, and the 2002 Carol Crow Memorial Fellowship Award from the Houston Center for Photography, Houston, TX. Dunkerley’s project, “Transmit,” an installation of stained glass panels with liquid photo emulsion and sandblasted imagery, was exhibited at the Galveston Arts Center, in conjunction with FotoFest 2004: The Tenth International Biennial of Photography and Photo-Related Art. “Transmit” is also included in Subjective Narratives, a catalog published by the Houston Center for Photography documenting seven solo exhibitions funded by a National Endowment for the Arts Creativity Grant. Dunkerley’s enchanted, window-lit constructs are represented in many private and public collections, including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
Recent exhibition activity includes “Charmed,” a solo exhibition at the Print Center in Philadelphia, PA, and four of her photolithographs were included in the group show, New York/Paris DIALOGUE Paris/New York, exhibited in both Paris and in New York City. This fall, 20″x24″ Polaroid prints by Susan Dunkerley will be included in “Play,” a year-long group exhibition at Proteus Gowanus in Brooklyn, NY, and her work will be featured in a solo exhibition at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX.
