Lighting and Posing Made Simple
with Scott Smith

Scott teaches the fundamentals of studio portrait lighting and posing using a live model with studio lighting equipment. Newcomers and veteran photographers alike will find that there are many things that they never knew about routine portraiture. Learn all of the most common lighting patterns and how to precisely duplicate them with every subject. Scott teaches countless do’s and don’ts and spectacular lighting techniques that anyone can learn with ease. Scott’s visual teaching method makes it incredibly easy for ANYONE to master the principles of lighting and posing with little effort. Learn an easier way of lighting and posing that will make you a better photographer on the spot.

Scott has been interested in photography most of his life and elected to make it his career shortly after marrying in 1979. He is actively involved in the following professional organizations:

He has achieved the following professional degrees:

Certified Professional Photographer
Texas Fellowship Degree

Scott is an instructor for the Texas School of Professional Photography and is a frequent speaker and print judge at photography conventions around the country. He has also lectured artists groups on print enhancement and retouching. Scott’s simple to understand teaching methods are widely known by photographers across the country. He has authored four educational books for professional photographers and will soon release a series of instructional videos.

Scott has had numerous prints selected for the Masters Loan Collection and many of these appear in various PP of A loan collection books. He has had numerous images on the cover of the Southwest Image Magazine.
He is one of four photographers in the nation whose work was selected by the Eastman Kodak Company for display at the PPA National Convention Trade Show Exhibit.

Scott has recieved over 230 trophies and awards for his work. These include Presidential Trophies on four occasions for highest print points in Texas and the Judges Choice Trophy on two occasions for overall Best of Show in the Southwest.

He has been honored for three consecutive years with the Fuji Masterpiece Award and has received the Kodak Gallery Award on nine occasions.

In 1994 Scott placed second in the nation winning the prestigious Eastman Kodak Elite Award. His work has been chosen for display at Walt Disney Worlds EPCOT Center and has also been selected for permanent display at the Sherman Hines Photography Museum in Canada.

Scott holds the distinction of being the first photographer in the history of the Southwest to score a perfect 100 on a print submitted for judging. This print is now part of the permanent collection at the International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Admission charge: No charge for members, $10 for guests. No charge for first time guests. HOTPPG Annual membership is $50 per calendar year. Dues are pro-rated quarterly for those joining mid year.
