Wedding Workflow
with Michael Cate

Michael Cate began his career in 1971 as a sports photographer and writer for his hometown newspaper while in high school. He and his wife Melinda opened their first studio in 1979. After five years of retail studio operation he opened a one hour color film lab which later caught on fire prompting him to reconsider his career. In 1984, Michael purchased stock in a community newspaper which he published for 8 years before establishing his own publishing company specializing in high quality pictorial history books. Throughout his career in publishing, he accepted commercial, portrait and event assignments in his spare time. Following the economic changes brought about by 911, Michael decided to return to photography full time and pursue his master degree. Since then he has become active in his local Houston Guild, Texas and National Associations where he earned his certification and is now completing the final merits of his certificate of business management and requirements to speak as an approved business instructor.

Michael currently works from a residential office, specializing in weddings and location portraiture.

In 2007, Michael and a partner photographer will open a portrait studio near Beaumont, Texas utilizing many of the techniques and experiences he will share now.

Last year his community took a direct hit from hurricane Rita. Using the service and marketing techniques he will share, you'll discover how he survived and grew stronger from an event that shut down the SE Texas economy for five months.

Challenging times are simply opportunities to work smarter while leaving the competition behind. Michael proves that sales, presentation, workflow and financial accountability must balance the artistic and creative efforts of todays photographer.
